Key technologies research and field demonstration of low-cost WDM PON system

Abstract:

In response to the explosive increase in the demand for optical fiber resources in 5G fronthaul networks, this paper proposes a low-cost WDM PON architecture and system that uses WDM and single-fiber bidirectional technologies to save more than 78% of the backbone and distribution optical fiber resources. In addition, the system has the advantages of few types of optical modules, maintainability and manageability, and high reliability. Research on key technologies such as low-cost tunable module and envelope modulation has been carried out, and a field demonstration of low-cost WDM PON system has been completed.
